5 Rules for Creating Affirmations That Work

Affirmations have the power to:

  • re-write limiting beliefs

  • create empowering thoughts

  • produce rapid change

  • lock-in new habits or stop old ones

  • attract abundance

  • and more...

IF you know how to create them properly!

This is especially important because 70% of our thoughts and beliefs are negative and disempowering, so we have to be proactive about directing our brains.

If you want to create powerful, effective affirmations, follow the guidelines below.

For maximum impact, write down your new affirmation(s) at least 3x every morning and repeat them throughout the day!

Pro Tip: Put your affirmation(s) around your home, on your desk, on a mirror, and even your phone screen so your subconscious is picking up the message multiple times per day!

5 Rules for Creating Powerful Affirmations:

The Affirmation must meet the following 5 conditions in order to be considered a “powerful” affirmation that will help it be “sticky” and “save” more quickly in your brain.

  1. Stated in the first-person

    • “I am confident.”

  2. Present tense

    • “I am confident” not “I will be confident” - which implies the future.

  3. Positively stated

    • “I have courage” instead of “I don’t have fear.”

  4. Fairly short

    • No long paragraphs, keep them fairly short, the use of commas is OK! “I trust myself and opportunities flow to me.”

  5. Emotionally meaningful to YOU!

    • Choose words that are meaningful to YOU! For example, I had a client who didn’t like the word “authentic” because it was too overused at work, so instead of saying “I am authentic” she said “I am true to myself and whole on my own.”
