"I am beautiful": Struggles with body image insecurity

I recently shared on Instagram something I haven’t shared publicly before but have certainly struggled with for a while… body image insecurity. Over the past year or two, I decided it was finally time to change that negative self-talk once and for all. As all worthy pursuits, it takes time, especially something that’s been engrained during adolescent / teenage years. It’s pretty crazy how mean we can be to ourselves. And how thoughts that I truly KNOW aren’t helpful or true can still creep in and cause destruction. Obviously I won’t tolerate that (😂) so I implemented a few strategies...

One technique I use (and I use this for lots of things) is that when a thought comes into my head that is mean, judgmental, or unhelpful, I immediately flag that as a “story” and choose not to believe it. Then replace it with a few mantras or thoughts I know to be true or healthier ones that I want to believe, even if they aren’t habit just yet.

I also don’t just use the positive affirmations to counter-act the bad ones, I create space to practice these on their own. I don’t want them to become reactions, I want to form a whole new mindset. This is so helpful in so many ways and I am 100% experiencing the shift & an improvement. Hopefully this helps you in some way!
